Tippecanoe darter Etheostoma tippecanoe. One of the smallest of freshwater fish species in North America, so small in fact they slip through all but the smallest net mesh sizes. The Tippecanoe darter has undergone a less dramatic reoccupation of its former range than the Bluebreast darter, but the expansion is refreshingly encouraging nonetheless. The males of this species develop brilliant orange coloration in spawning condition. More information is available about the Tippecanoe darter from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Species Guide.
